Dialogic Hybrid Media Gateways for Unified Communications Print E-mail

Dialogic (www.dialogic.com) has announced the Dialogic 4000 Media Gateway Series (DMG4000 gateways), a set of integrated systems designed to connect Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 to existing PBX systems and PSTN networks. Based on a standard 1U rack-mount server running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, the DMG4000 gateways are basic hybrid gateways designed to provide both the media gateway function and the Mediation Server role of Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007. Mediation Server provides PSTN and PBX interoperability, high-fidelity audio via the Microsoft RT Audio codec, and VoIP security for Office Communications Server 2007. Hardware features include Dialogic Diva Media Boards, 64-bit dual-core Intel Xeon 5100 series processors, RAID 1 hard disk subsystem and redundant power supplies, as well as dual load-balancing Gigabit Ethernet interfaces toward the IP networks with a choice of either two or four T1/E1 interfaces toward the PSTN or PBX. Two integrated turnkey configurations can support up to 60 or 120 channels of unified communications traffic between legacy networks and the IP network and are capable of supporting hundreds of IP endpoints registered to OCS 2007.

Nokia Siemens Networks 3G Femto Home Access Solution Print E-mail

Nokia Siemens Networks (www. nokiasiemensnetworks.com) has launched its 3G Femto Home Access solution with open interfaces and a new network element, Femto Gateway. The 3G Femto Home Access solution is a new way of enhancing WCDMA 3G coverage in homes, making it easy for consumers to enjoy high quality 3G services with any standard WCDMA handset. The solution allows operators to reinforce their relationship with their customers because it enables attractive services and tariffs to subscribers at home and encourages the use of highbandwidth 3G services. Femto CPEs use IP broadband backhaul connections and are easy to install at home in the same way as xDSL/WiFi modems. The Femto cell functionality can be packaged to operator-specific home gateway devices together with other functionalities like WiFi, Ethernet routing, or storage. Trials of the 3G Femto Home Access solution will start at the beginning of 2008, and commercial deployments are planned for the third quarter of 2008.

Securing the IP Enterprise

Mobility is one of the hot buzzwords in IP networking spaces. Mobile workers, mobile devices, and ubiquitous service coverage present the holy grail of the workanywhere professional. This broadening of access, coupled with integration of VoIP and video services, creates a problem for enterprise security managers. Deperimeterization of the network has raised the bar on what it takes to effectively protect an enterprise. Enterprise businesses have implemented traditional security mechanisms ranging from firewalls and session border controllers to intrusion detection and prevention systems. They worked when the perimeter was a single connection to the Internet. In today's business environment, with highly mobile professionals connecting via all manner of devices, the perimeter is both nowhere and everywhere. But it's no longer a fixed, visible point in the network topology.
