8x8 (www.packet8.net) has introduced the Packet8 Virtual Office Tango Video Adapter (VTA), an affordable desktop videoconferencing solution that enhances the functionality of the Packet8 Virtual Office hosted iPBX phone system. Packet8 Virtual Office subscribers can now conduct videoconferencing directly from their personal Virtual Office extension. The VTA has a built-in highresolution five-inch LCD color screen and 180-degree rotating CCD camera to deliver advanced full-motion video at up to 30 frames per second along with crisp, delay-free audio. In addition to two- or three-way videoconferencing, the Packet8 Virtual Office Tango includes a built-in router, a remote surveillance mode, and integration with Microsoft Outlook. New Virtual Office subscribers can purchase the Tango as a bundle with the company’s business-class speakerphone, while existing subscribers can get the VTA as an add-on device.

Securing the IP Enterprise

Mobility is one of the hot buzzwords in IP networking spaces. Mobile workers, mobile devices, and ubiquitous service coverage present the holy grail of the workanywhere professional. This broadening of access, coupled with integration of VoIP and video services, creates a problem for enterprise security managers. Deperimeterization of the network has raised the bar on what it takes to effectively protect an enterprise. Enterprise businesses have implemented traditional security mechanisms ranging from firewalls and session border controllers to intrusion detection and prevention systems. They worked when the perimeter was a single connection to the Internet. In today's business environment, with highly mobile professionals connecting via all manner of devices, the perimeter is both nowhere and everywhere. But it's no longer a fixed, visible point in the network topology.
