Polycom HDX 400 Series Executive Desktop Video System Print E-mail

Polycom (www.polycom.com) has announced the HDX 4000 series, an executive desktop videoconferencing system to offer a complete UltimateHD experience including HD voice, HD video, and HD content-sharing capabilities. HDX 4000 solutions are designed to fit on an executive desktop as a personal system, at a small table, or in a small conference room to support up to four people on camera. The system delivers HD video resolution–720p (1280x720) resolution at 30 frames per second (fps)–at 1 Mbps to 4 Mbps bandwidth, and standard definition quality–4CIF 704x575 at 30 fps–at 256 kbps bandwidth. Through patent-pending PC content collaboration capabilities, the system will deliver simultaneous HD streams for people and content, which is HD video and HD content appearing on the screen at the same time, with one-button transmission from a PC or Mac. North America list price starts at $7,999.

Securing the IP Enterprise

Mobility is one of the hot buzzwords in IP networking spaces. Mobile workers, mobile devices, and ubiquitous service coverage present the holy grail of the workanywhere professional. This broadening of access, coupled with integration of VoIP and video services, creates a problem for enterprise security managers. Deperimeterization of the network has raised the bar on what it takes to effectively protect an enterprise. Enterprise businesses have implemented traditional security mechanisms ranging from firewalls and session border controllers to intrusion detection and prevention systems. They worked when the perimeter was a single connection to the Internet. In today's business environment, with highly mobile professionals connecting via all manner of devices, the perimeter is both nowhere and everywhere. But it's no longer a fixed, visible point in the network topology.
