Toshiba Telecommunication Enhanced Video Communications Solution VCS 2.0 Print E-mail

Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. Telecommunication Systems Division (www.toshiba.com) has announced the launch of its enhanced Video Communication Solution (VCS) 2.0 for its Strata CIX family of VoIP business-communication systems. VCS provides affordable point-to-point (P2P) videoconferencing, desktop/application sharing, file transfer, and message-board capabilities for up to three parties. VCS 2.0 brings video telephony to Toshiba?s full line of telephones and endpoints, including Strata IP desk telephones, Toshiba digital telephones, and Toshiba SoftIPT softphones. Features include full integration with the Strata CIS system, integrated video telephony functionality, a collaboration console to share desktops, applications, or documents, and a text-message board.

Securing the IP Enterprise

Mobility is one of the hot buzzwords in IP networking spaces. Mobile workers, mobile devices, and ubiquitous service coverage present the holy grail of the workanywhere professional. This broadening of access, coupled with integration of VoIP and video services, creates a problem for enterprise security managers. Deperimeterization of the network has raised the bar on what it takes to effectively protect an enterprise. Enterprise businesses have implemented traditional security mechanisms ranging from firewalls and session border controllers to intrusion detection and prevention systems. They worked when the perimeter was a single connection to the Internet. In today's business environment, with highly mobile professionals connecting via all manner of devices, the perimeter is both nowhere and everywhere. But it's no longer a fixed, visible point in the network topology.
